Why does people still make players for the same stuff? Look at all the mp3-players out there. They're all doing the same stuff. The only difference is the look. They all use the same codecs. I think people should only use the new Media Player for windows (good actually) and winamp!

But what about the unsupported media types, such as realmedia? I say: FUCK THEM!! Your formats suck ass anyway! But if you can make a format better than mp3...ehh?...THEN MAKE A CODEC and PUT IT IN WINAMP.

I'm really getting sick of all these crappy players out there and in here. And they are installed automatically when installing other stuff.

I only use three media-players of any kind on my system, and they are the only ones installed, no windows sound crap and cd players on here, I dont even have my soundcard utilities on here.

I only use WinAmp, CDH Media Wizard and MusicMatch Jukebox, WinAmp for my player (of almost every music type there is, including realmedia and windows media), Media Wizard for my audio conversion (conversion from and to almost every type of audio there is, with quality), and MusicMatch Jukebox for ripping my friends CD's to mp3 until I have a cd spare to burn a copy to.

Yeah, here's a good fuckin' idea. Let's have a monopolistic stronghold on a market, and only have a couple media players available. Oh, other platforms? Screw em. Better yet, let's have Microsoft be the holder of this monopolistic stronghold. You know Kolben, I agree with you that Media Player and winamp are the only two necessary media players, but you're mode of thinking is just dumb.

I prefer Sonique because it does a much better job with .mod, .it, .s3m, .xm, .etc. files. At least it did a year or so ago when I started using it. I haven't tried winamp lately.

I use Xing Audiocatalyst for ripping. It can do straight data reads from CDs or actual audio sources. It normalizes, encodes mp3s, lets you set name formats, etc. Lots of good stuff.

Well I think Winamp is awesome. The quality at which it plays just depends on how good your plugins are coded basicly. For CD ripping though I use CDex. It's a freeware ripper and rips just like Xing Audiocatalyst does. You can also pick your MP3 encoder.

MusicMatch Jukebox is the mother of all rippers though, with the ability to encode mp3's at up to 360kbps and the ability to record from CD, wav (auto conversion), line in, mic, et al.

It simply cant be beaten, unless you have a p166 with 16m of 72pin EDO ram, in which case you'll have trouble ripping at 1.1x normal playspeed, I however can get 12x normal playspeed on my ripping with it, and it makes my life a hell of a lot easier, since I can rip cd's in a 12th of the time, it means my friends dont have to worry about noticing their cd collection is missing for a few hours when I go on mp3-ripping hunts.

I agree with you there Kolben, winamp is l33t and if only other media player finally noticed that they cant get better than it everything would be fine.

I would say Napster would be a good thing to have aswell, if of course you dont have access to that many CD's (CD's are lame) MP3's rule

I love Sonique, I wouldn't want any other player. The only thing it lacks is CDDb support tho

I love Winamp, except it has a bug which makes it randomly freeze when a song ends. Sonique is the next best I guess, but it sucks compared to Winamp.
