Am I tarded?
I just wanted to get a grip on the fighting...
I have always had a "hands off" approach to Detnet.
I don't want to touch what isn't broke.
If I'm wrong, I'm sorry. Umm, does anyone think I did ok with Detnet? Am I that bad?

is it just my imagination or does editor sound like a bot? all of his posts are very short and pointless.

Quote (kuru @ 05 June 2002,18:04) | This isn't a computer problem, it's a human one. I regret helping you because you've turned mean on the people who built this community. |
I'd get a little mean and defensive too, if I shelled out a bunch of cash to preserve a community and all the members of that community did was shit on me.
kuru, you're a detvet. I've been given that title, but only just barely. Maybe you should start showing some positive leadership and offer support to the only person who's really trying to preserve your precious community instead of throwing gas on the fire.
You flaunt your experience and maturity in everyone's face all the time. Frankly, I haven't seen it lately. Mostly what I've seen is a bunch of petty, childish attacks on ed and a couple of others. And before you start, no I'm not flaming you. I've appreciated many of your posts for being intelligent, informed, well-phrased and appropriate. However, your self-avowed knowledge of the community should give you a greater understanding of what it really needs. I didn't see much of that before the blow-up (which, granted, I wasn't here for).
I love detnet, too. I hate to see it in these potential death throes. If you understand/love it as much as you claim, then stop tearing things down...help build it up. Ed keeps asking for help, but I don't think anyone actually believes him. I do. I think he really wants this place to be great. I don't think that deleting posts was the right thing, but he thought it was best for the forums. I disagree, and so do you. Why don't we try to figure out a way that it isn't necessary. How does that sound?

beldurin, you've got it all wrong.
you can't summarize a story after hearing only one side of it.
-------------- Sir? May I recommend I load myself into the reverse-thrust tubes and you use my body as decoy-fodder? This will, of course leave me splattered across deep space and unable to complete today's laundry, for which I apologise in advance.

Then please, enlighten me...if not here then via email or IM (beldurin on aol). That isn't sarcasm btw...I would honestly like to hear as much of the story as possible.
I'm not trying to take sides, because I don't think that there should be sides.

Last night I listend to DetVets and DetNetters tell me they were leaving because of the new rule in which editor would delete posts if anybody got, in his interpretation, mean to someone else.
I reacted out of anger first, anger at being told I (and others here) needed a babysitter because the tide of detnet includes the times when we heat up and flame the hell out of each other. Because it was forgotten that there's another side to that where we can flame someone one day and then be civil to them in another thread somewhere else. And after being angry, I was sick. I was hearing from people that they were going to leave, and getting the impression from editor that he really intended to drive the plane into the ground.
After talking to editor, I have the understanding that he does not want Detnet to die. He perhaps never understood that the 'fighting' was part of the nature of the community, and that we generally end up making up (well, there was syph0n) in a matter of time. I've urged him not to spend most of the day here, because it does nasty things to a person who gets too emotionally invested in every post.
Now, I've asked editor to relax on the babysitter-thing and to not delete further posts but to understand that he's joined a community here. The community does not want to see itself die, and it generally doesn't get too worked up about a fight or something.
To the DetNet community, I have a few requests. Please try to save your anger for Rants, and if you must roast someone (we all do at times) do it over there. If you are a person being roasted, please understand that Detnet does not hate you, and a few flames to get an argument out of the way means we can all go have a beer together (even you underage people). If any of you really are bothered by something, please click on the e-mail link and contact an admin. Admins are here to serve this community, not to rule over it (IMO, anyway. I am a servant of Detnet). I'm available by Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ, IRC and e-mail, and if someone here feels they've been seriously attacked, I will try to help resolve the matter.
Lastly, for now, please give editor some space to breathe. Continuing to jump on his back at this point isn't going to improve anything. If you want to rant and rave to someone right now, yell at me. It won't be held against you.
Here's to the future. -kuru
