It's still beavering on like it ever did. I think atm the owner is having an argument, because in PG's "mission statement" it says that all the books will be available in ASCII or something. Well I think someone wants to make a reader (because the current structure sucks) so you can just do a search on your desktop? And some method of converting the books to HTML, but the owner won't have it. I think.

Who cares? It's not like it would be all that difficult to write a script that would convert ASCII to HTML anyways. I agree that a better format should be used, but ASCII is the most versatile, and can be easily converted to just about any format on the fly.

Yeah but ASCII has no formatting, does it? That's the idea. It's more interesting to read a formatted page.

Formatting as in what? Column width and font size? That could all be easily controlled with the script that converts it to HTML, or whatever format you wanted it in.
