Last drive that died on me was a western digital. Trust the bastard to do that about a month after the warranty ended as well.

Before you do the gravity test on it, I'm hoping that you've at least tried hooking the drive up to the secondary channel or made it a slave or something... ie, not made it a boot drive. Once you boot into windows/lunix/whatever, you've got a better chance of figuring out what's wrong with it. You may have lost all the data, but perhaps a good formatting will fix the drive. Couldn't tell you for sure, but the gravity test sort of puts a damper on tech support.

Hey Rhydant; don't forget to change the cam, put in solid lifters, and a new manifold! I found out that my old car would accelerate just about as fast with a 2.73 rear axle as a 3.50. and it got better mileage, too. I could hit 65 mph before shifting out of first gear! Never did find out how fast that combo would go. Hit 125 mph and still accelerating, but I chickened out.
I haven't backed me up on disc yet!
Me, being a n00b, bought a VAIO last Xmas. The s.m.a.r.t reported the drive would die (sounds like HAL 9000) after the first 5 days. I can't wait! to buy my next VAIO. kbreak

Wha!? Vaio's kick ass. I have a Vaio laptop that I use for just about everything at work. Sony was smart enough to add firewire into their laptops which I use to plug into external disks. Decent transfer rates (until USB2 is out) and keeps the internal drive free. The only problem is I don't have all my pr0n when traveling
