My electives always were insanely difficult. I guess they just have different standards for what passes for education over at Berzerkely

No, you just took the wrong electives. One of mine was editing the student literary magazine. I spent 99% of my classtime getting stoned in the parking lot with a cute girl from my class.
UC Berkeley is actually a really tough school, and its student body is generally fairly conservative. It's the City of Berkeley that sux0rs.

The other hippy classes I took that semester were Calculus III, Discrete Mathematics II, The Works of Shakespeare, and The Romantics, 1789-1830. We California types sure know how to slack!
edit : I went to Sonoma State University, not UC Berkeley. I had plenty of friends that attended UCB, though, and the pressure on them was insane.

ugh I'm in discrete again this semester. I got a D+ last time so wheeee, I get to take it again. I love CS and programming. I abhor advanced math classes. A lot of my friends go to UCSD and study constantly. Not like me. I never study.
But I'm left wondering.. If you graduate a more prestigious school, will you _really_ get that much better of a job? I don't think so. It's always who you know, not what pieces of paper you possess.

True. At Ivy League schools, you meet lots of rich kids. Enough said.

I went to pitt.edu. I got a piece of paper from there. And cmu.edu was just a couple more blocks down Fifth Ave.
I have the same degree that passed the same standards of accreditation and was taught by many of the same professors.
So, what's the difference?
I got mine for 1/4 the price.

well said.
Nice thing about the UCs is that they aren't expensive. Around$2k/semester. I paid about $1400/sem. at SSU.
Around here, the Rich Kid school is Stanford. The campus is absolutely gorgeous... but I don't think you get a better education.
You do, however, get better connections.
Then again, I despise Old Boys Clubs, so I don't think I lost anything by not going there...
