IB's email is working again.
It wasn't Ikonboard's fault. Someone had set the path to sendmail to qmail-inject, which is not compatible with sendmail.
Admins : for future reference, Sendmail Path (under Email Options) should be /var/qmail/bin/sendmail

are you sure about that? i'm running qmail, and Ib properly chose sendmail on my system when I installed it...
