So as some of you know, I've been trying to get on with the FBI.  I just found out today that I'm disqualified for guess what...my vision.  You can't have worse than 20/200 in either eye and still be accepted.  I'm planning on getting the lasik eye surgery, however they require 1 full year to pass after the surgery before they will consider you.

So, to recap:  I graduate in July.  The FBI was the only job I was pursuing.  I won't be able to work for them for at least a year.  I should've known better than to get excited about something good happening to me.  I finally found what I want to do, only to be told that I can't do it because of my eyes.

I hate my life.  I'm going to go be angry now.

Know how you feel m8. I couldn't get into the royal marines cos of my eyesight even if i did have laser correction.

Can't really give any "Legal" advice on how to dodge the system but there are usually loopholes in things like this if you really want to get through.

I can't drive.  Never will be able to.

Oh yeah, that also rules out the FBI, Piloting, boating liscense, gun liscence, hell, I can't even be a Taxi car driver.

20/400 vision in the left eye, 20/200 with correction (that's as good as it gets.)  Particially detached retina in the right.

Hell... I can't get a good picture of someones face until I get a chance to see it pretty close... ???    God ,I'm going to stop talking about this now, I ussually try not to think about it.

Moral of the story: Be grateful.  I'm grateful they were able to fix my rretinas (to an extent) or I would be blind like my grandpa...

Seems that i'm quite lucky with my eyesight, although i will never ever be able to be a pilot or the like either. My eyes had to be put " inline" twice. My right eye still "squints" but i can live with it.

but can you tell me what 20/20 or 20/400 vision meaNs?
i know i have to wear lenses that -2.75 dpt. one of them is "toric". Anyhow sometimes i wished i could get up and see the world clear.
I do however sleep with my lenses in too cool.gif

20/20 is average or 'perfect' vision. Its what other vision ratings are based upon. 20/30 vision means that what someone with 20/20 can see clearly at 30 feet, you can see clearly only at 20. 20/400 therefore means that what some with 20/20 can see clearly at 400 feet, you can see clearly at only 20.

Its also possible to have better than 20/20 vision. 20/17 for example (which is what I have Left: 20/30 Right: 20/20 Combined(both eyes): 20/17) means that was someone with 20/20 vision can see clearly at 17 feet, you can see clearly at 20.

In other words, how you see things that are 400 ft away is pretty much how I see things that are 20 ft away.
