The only thing I know about Vegemite is the line from the Mr. Mister song 'Land Down Under' Something about a Vegemite sandwich....but like anything in life you have to use it correctly or it tastes like crap. Take liver, I hate it by itself, but put onions and bacon with it and I like it.

And it is very healthy. The only thing wrong with it is it's high sodium content, apart from that it's incredibly good for you.

Marmite tip #1

(Q) Why is Marmite stored in a black container?

(A) To stop sunlight getting into it. UV light (sunlight) destroys the B-vitamins present in Marmite, and it would detract from the nutritional value.

So there ya go

I am Australian too, but have never gotten into the vegemite scene. Its probably because of my sweet tooth. I tried it before, and it wasn't too bad, but it didnt grab me-too salty.

Tekno is right tho. You only eat vegemite in minute quantities. Best with butter on hot toast. There's those cheese flavoured vegemite slices that Kraft sells (do they sill sell 'em?) but I wouldn't know how that one tastes since I limit my calcium intake to icecream and chocolates :) (osteoperosis? bah!) and calcium suplements (when I feel enough guilt :)

Ok I know its been a week since the last post on this topic...but here goes anyway.
I just spend 6 months in Australia (study abroad) in Melbourne. My friends down there all eat it (and one of them swears it's good for a hangover- I always thought that asprin/panadol would do just fine) Anyway they made me eat it...it wasn't good but it wasn't bad either. I just can't see myself buying it. Now nutella on the other hand...that stuff is crazy good.

I am a self described stupid American, in that I do not know a lot about other cultures. I would like to know which vegetables are present in this vegetable paste known as "vegemite." If someone could tell me, that would be great.

P.S. The Vitametavegamin episode was fuckin' hilarious! But that was a liquid vitamin supplement mixed with grain alcohol, not a sandwitch spread made of vegetables. Sorry Proteun, I used to watch Nick at Nite when I was a little kid.

sorry bozeman, its not really made of vegetables, and it does have quite a bit in common with vitametavegamin, because its basically what you get after you brew beer, and then you take the beer out.
