I'm not fully knowledgable on every aspect of computing yet.
Have a small delima.
I have a HP Pavillion 520w with WinXP installed and shit, I want to put win98SE or winME on there to run some games that XP won't run.
I do not want to reformat the hard drive because I don't have the backup capability's to do so.
I do have another 6 gig hd that I can and want to put in there, if I have win98 on the 6gig'er how can I set it up to give me the option to boot between the 2 different hard drives and operating systems?
Any help is well appreciated. and thank you.

set the 6 gig as slave to start .. then go looking for a program called

system commander(?)  lets you start with a boot menu, probablly the easiest way to do it in that case

if you have XP and you just want to use games then use XP's compatibility mode or whatever for win98 or winme.

::edit::
or maybe i misunderstood your question.

if you slave the 6 gig hdd, you should be able to boot from the CD and install 98/ME on the second drive.

XP should have a boot loader (correct me if I'm wrong, folks) which should then give you the option of which OS to start.

I'm leaving out some of the specifics, but that should be enough to get you rolling.  Just experiment...that's the best way to learn just about anything computer-related anyway.

compatibility mode is where you make XP run a program as it would run in a previous Windows OS.

I know what it is, just haven't used it so I'm not sure how well it works.

XP's comatibility mode is still not sufficient half the time. i has a few games not run properly even in compatibility mode, and those that do, i feel a bit of a performace loss. as for dual boot, as long as the drive with windows 98 is set as a slave you can use dualboot feature that comes standard with windows XP. that would envolve a little bit of reading and editing file boot.ini in your root directory. there are other ways, you can for example after instalationg of XP boot from the cd again and go to recovery console. i am sure it's possible in recovery console to do something like "repair boor sequence" or something of that sort and it will check for operating systems you are running and automatically create a proper boot.ini for you. that is the easiest way in my opinio, but there are way too many third party programs that would do dual boot for you.
