Anyone have experience with mixing pc100 and pc133 DIMMs in the same system? Specifically, I'm looking at adding 2 pc133 64mb DIMMs into my box that already has one 128mb DIMM which I believe is pc100 (although I'm not entirely sure). I've been told that there's about a 50/50 chance of it working, although no one I've asked knew anything about my specific board. (Asus P2B with a Pentium II 450). The Asus website has no info on this.

Does anyone know if adding the pc133 Dimms will work? Would there be any harm in trying it? Thanks.

You should never have a problem mixing sticks of SDRAM as long as the memory speed (usually the Front Side Bus speed depending on mobo) you're running is not higher than the rating on the slowest chip.
otherwise your overclocking the memory >:]

I've got a 32 meg PC66 dimm at 133mHz on my KT7 w/ no problems. I was pretty suprised

There shouldn't be any problem. You can't currently be running [much] over a 100mhz FSB since your current ram stick is pc100, so the pc133 will run easily.

I'm running a 64 pc-100 with a 32 pc-66, and it works fine. maybe not as fast as I'd like, but I really don't do much that rides CPU/memory like that.

I mix PC100 and PC133 in those boards all the time. It'll work without a hitch.

If you want to mix PC100 and PC133, you need to put the PC100 in the first DIMM slot, IE SLOT0. I ran into this on my ASUS board, and it caused me all kind of shit.

I guess that really depends on the mobo.

My abit has no problems.

However it doesn't like running PC100 RAM at 154MHZ. But thanks to Abit I was able to lower my memory speed to HCLK - PCICLK until my PC150 Ram arrives in the mail.
