Umm...if it's either going steady or not at all, how do relationships get started? Don't people just "hang out?"

Here's an idea, do you have any mutual friends? Get some people together (you and him included) and go out as a group of friends having a good time. The upshot is that there are no rumors and you get a chance to spend time with him and feel him out so to speak to see if you want to date him.

Just my 2 cents, and this coming from a guy who still doesn't know why he got dumped 2 weeks ago (and no, I don't think that it's because I'm a loser...exactly)
