Heh, so I'm 27. Am I officially the oldest one reading these threads? Although I'm only a few years older than you guys, I gotta say it was hard growing up in the 80's, let alone being a geek and growing up in the 80's. "Grrrlgeeks" didn't start existing until just a few years ago. Most of the girls I knew growing up were still trying to come to terms with being equal to men and just generally trying to figure out what their role is society was going to be. They didn't have time for other people (geeks) who didn't know what their role in society was going to be either. Things are in a pretty good state these days. For example, ten years ago I would have gotten slapped for using the word "chick". Nowdays chicks use the word chick all the time and think nothing of it. Needless to say I don't get slapped as much anymore. Nowdays its OK for chicks to talk publically about sex and other formally taboo subjects. 10 years ago they would have immediately been labled as sluts. Speaking of sluts, the "slut double standard" also really isn't a double standard anymore. For the most part everyone pretty much agrees that sex is fun and lots of sex is even more fun. Being a slut really isn't considered derogitory I guess. ;-) However, I'm still constantly baffled, amazed and in awe of women who are smart, assertive, witty and into the same shit I'm into. Granted most of them are 5-10 years younger than me but they still enchant me none the less. I seem to be rambling... So what the fuck was my point? I guess I'm just gonna say that it does make sense to post a singles ad on detonate.net message boards, as strange as that sounds. I mean anyone who reads detonate.net enough to actually read the message boards is either cool enough to date or completely insane. Either way, the paths that led you both to the boards in the first place would be enough common ground to keep at least a few dates interesting. My question is though... Does anyone see the oxymoron here:

virgin computer nerd, seeking 31337 gurlie for lovin. Enjoys computers, sex

Virgin? Ejnoys sex? That's like saying "I love space travel"!!! ;-)

i've been a geek chick my entire life... but only about five years ago started dealing with the 'chick' half of that. i'm a big time tomboy, i always hung out with the guys, i still hang out with the guys, and i always will hang out with the guys. the world doesn't consist of males and females or men and women or guys and girls.....it's dudes and chicks.

as far as the double standard not existing anymore.. it still does. evidence? it's in several of the threads on this forum.

welcome aboard.

Kuru, you're right! There are still a few unenlightened folks out there! They somehow manage to sift up to the surface on the 'net but are kinda hard to find in real life, at least around here... ;-) Let's put it this way, the relevant people think like us Kuru! Everyone else can fuckoff...
