wow this is so cool! about 3 weeks ago some psu student posted a message about selling the new incubus cd on cd-r's for ŭ (the one that hasn't come out yet). he stupididly used his psu email address, which is very easy to trace the address/phone number of. just to spite him for spamming the board, I reported him to the RIAA on their webpage. Today I just got this response:

I think the guy was running atleast a few. Although I don't know for sure, if he gets caught I'll still get my reward. As I said though, I'm not expecting to get anything I think it's just cool that there is a minor possibility.

Just because the RIAA is dumb doesn't mean the guy didn't break the law. What he did was illegal. The moron deserves to be reported just for being enough of an idiot to try and pull that off.

Likely what will happen is the RIAA will start investigating you for being an associate with this dude, or something. Then, they'll shut you down, fine you ฟ for each song on your computer whether you own it or not, file a complaint under the DMCA, put you in jail, nail your girlfriend, make harrassing phone calls in the night to your mother, put you on the Columbia House mailing list, put a big picture of you on their website with a sign saying "America's Number 1 Narc!!!", and send you out on a date with Hilary Rosen.
