A man was sentenced to three years in prison for beating his daughter because she and her siblings saw "Monsters, Inc." without him.

Scott Whitney, 36, of Lakewood, told his four children not to see the movie with their grandfather because he wanted to take them to it, prosecutors said.

Whitney pleaded guilty in early July to a charge of child endangerment and was setenced last week.

The children lied when Whitney asked if they had seen the movie because they feared what he would do if they told the truth, Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Ronni Ducoff said.

Whitney took them to the film and learned the childred already had seen it from his 4-year-old son.

He slapped his 9-year-old daughter during the ride home and later spanked her with a wooden paddle, Ducoff said.

"He went crazy," Ducoff said. "And for what? Kids love to watch the same movie over and over again."

The children, who now live with their mother, told a social worker he had hit them before
