MELAKA, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- Yang Chow, 104, succesfully underwent surgery yesterday for the removal of his scrotum due to prostate cancer at Hospital Pantai Ayer Keroh here. Yang Chow went through a "Transurethral Resection of the Prostate" (TURP) which involves removing a portion of the obstructive tissue by inserting an instrument called a resectoscope into the penis through the urethra. The centenarian, from Sungai Nipah, Port Dickson, who speaks Malay and Cantonese was recuperating without any difficulties, the hospital's chief executive officer Gan Kong Hoe said. He said a paediatric urologist carried out the endocopic surgery on Yang Chow. Yang Chow who was born in Kwangju, China, in 1899, came to Malaysia when he was 20-years-old and worked until he was 80. He has a son and three daughters. " Due to his age, we did'nt do any major radical surgery on him," said Gan. Yang Chow who survived after falling inside a burning house in December 1999 also succesfully underwent surgery to remove his prostate gland and a stone in the bladder at the same hospital about three weeks after the incident. "Again, as of last time, we are waiving all his medical charges as part of our community service," said Gan.-- BERNAMA
