Guinea Pigs Overrunning California

The humane society is trying to find new owners for hundreds of the homeless little creatures. The Monterey County SPCA is overrun with guinea pigs.

Three-hundred-fifty of the furry critters were turned into the SPCA by a couple that had been breeding them for medical research. But those 350 quickly became 450. Placing that many guinea pigs in the Bay Area is unlikely, so guinea pig rescue workers are sending them to good homes out of state.

So far, 38 have been sent to New Mexico and Colorado. There are plans to send about another hundred to Utah and Ohio. But there are plenty more guinea pigs to go around.
