Internal Microsoft Documents Swiped
Date: Sunday, November 24 @ 05:00:35 UTC
Topic: Microsoft

According to the folks at theage.com.au, this article (Nov. 22, bit old) detials that Microsoft have had several internal documents snatched from an "insecure server" and released to all who wish to see them here.
"Included are a detailed comparison of Windows 2000 and Unix in the context of converting Hotmail's backends, the structure of Microsoft's Network Operation Center, and other documents of interest to IT people."
The link is active, I couldn't find it on slashdot? Makes for some interesting reading nonetheless...

Interweek.com posted this piece of clarification: "The confidential documents were exposed because some Microsoft marketing staff were using the FTP server as a repository, not realizing that the server was open for public access."

These are pretty lengthy whitepapers, so I am not gonna do any hardcore summaries. You should click the appropriate section to catch up on a topic that interest you. I found most of it much too boring to take in.

What's the chances of this being a big hoax? The article this info was taken from noted that "Microsoft has made no comment yet." I would not be the least suprised if this is shunned by Microsoft as a slandery campaign by a die hard anti-M$ fanatic...

If it is reliable however, there are a number of companies that would be interested in the Microsft Project Details outlook, which would serve well to counter any product innovation directions that Microsoft take in the near future.
