Ok well to start off I have been subscribing to an ADSL service here in Winnipeg, Manitoba for about 8 months and haven't had really any problems with it yet. Downstream works fine, sometimes 100+k/s, but Upstream is horrible ~12k/s. But that isn't my rant just an overview.

Just about 5 days ago now all of a sudden the modem connection light went red, and from then up until present I haven't been able to connect. I right now am using a 28.8 connection on my laptop, (after signing up for one of those free internet things, which sucks BTW.) and have been using that for the past couple days. Now on the second day my roommate calls the provider and told them the problem, I would have called them on the first day but it was Saturday and tech support is only open until 6pm. The first guy he got told him to try unplugging all the lines in the house and try connecting again. So he did that and nothing.

Now my roommate calls them for the second time, get some completely different guy and he tells him that the problem is that it is raining outside and the lines are getting wet, so we cannot connect. I'm like WTF?? it's been raining for the whole week and it just happens that now the lines are getting wet?

But, oh well, we sit here using a 28.8 connection on one of those free providers with the freaking ads and wait. They told us they sent out a flag and the telephone company is supposed to check it out and they'll get back to us. It's been two days and nothing.

Probably call them today and complain that I'm paying for this service and I haven't been able to use it for almost a week now. They wouldn't even give us a dial up account to use for the time being, not that that would do any good considering this is the only modem in the house.

Well that is it... for now...

You know where a great place to post that would be? In the BellSouth ADSL thread, that has to do with ADSL. I dunno, it just makes more sense than making a new thread

Well I started a new thread because:

1) The Bellsouth Thread deals with Bellsouth ADSL and mine doesn't.

2) My complaint isn't about the speed, it is about the service.

3) The Bellsouth Thread is OLD.

ok, that makes no sense what the fuck ever.
'the lines are getting wet?' that would be bullshit. i work for a dsl provider, so i am way too familiar with this concept... most likely scenarios:
1. their servers are fucked up, down, spontaneously combusted, etc.
2. whoever owns the copper (lines) has screwed something up - cut shit or something like that... this happens all the time...
3. your provider hasn't been bothering to pay their bills, so whoever owns the copper has decided to cut them off (another isp in town didn't pay their T3 bills for aobut 6 months before they got cut off...) - your isp might be trying to get away with this...
4. they've massively oversubscribed your bandwidth, so there are no open ports on their DSLAM.
5. they just suck.

but basically... 'the lines are wet' makes no sense whatsoever... in that case, you'd have no phone, since dsl runs over the same line system as phones.

harumph.

go kick their asses or something...
