Core PHP

The best book out there.  Aside from that, PHP is IMO kind of a blend of C++ and Perl.  You use mostly C++ syntax w/Perl-style variables.

php.net also has documentation on all native functions, with user-posted examples on just about every one.  Let me know if you need/want any help or examples.
