what was the point then?

why do you want us to click that link???

the site is identical.
I don't like that.

*warning* disapproved by Detnet Admin.

see the picture above, that's the site plus legalities, like copywrite. bla bla bla
IP but no domain name.
Something doesn't add up here.

This gives me funny feeling.
I think I'll run AdAware.

There is no need for you to run AdAware; you are totally safe. I hate spyware as much as you do. You are right, that link was useless, except that it is the location where I am hosting the picture because I am a poor little man who cannot afford a real website. the DNS for that ip address is hala.punahou.edu, which is the student web server for my high school here in hawaii. you may recognize it....maybe not. Punahou is where cr0bar went to school, too. I am sorry to have given you reason to worry about security; i am not experienced postintg stuff and just wanted to show you this pic i felt inspired to edit.

No offense was intended.

btw - the reason i gave the IP in the first place is because I had trouble accessing the school server I was using from off campus without putting in the IP address manually. it may be a big rich private school, but when it comes to hosting websites they are lazy, stingy bastards.

Ok, I'm a little pro-active after the events this week.

Go right ahead, then.

It did and does look odd to me.

hello spammer
Posted by forumwhore on Jul. 13 2002,02:03
fairly certain it's not spam.

if it was, it would be more polished.

d00d in HW, you need to surf more and
see what your sites look like on different
monitors.

One of those links was black till I looked rill close
and saw the links in purple.

It's totally ok to be a n00b, I'm one sometimes.

But if you post in a busy forum, someone will
notice any oddities.

(if it were spam it would promote something; I'm not
worried about carrying his bandwidth for that, just hope
it gets funnier)

Speed is everything, even on broadband; think of those on dialup?
Are you on a university T1-T3 something or other?

Edit.

Cut out most of the useless white space around whatshisname.

ed: copyright is easy:

if it makes fun of something, it's okay. Satire is 1st amendment okay.

that's why we can do bastardizations.

and remember: Cease and Decist orders are just another way of saying: "You have really popular content, Keep it up!"

Um BtC, I don't give a rat's nuts about the post itself, or DubyaJr.  I just thought it weird we get this post with a link, click on it, and it's the same exact thing. Uh oh.

I've cruised enough parts of the 'net to HAVE to run AdAware every week.

Leetle alarm bells went off in the head on this one, but it's ok.

If I choose to cruise, that's my problem, but I'm not allowing the rough trade onto my site.

You know I lurve you BtC!

UCB!

huh?

Upright Citizen's Brigade?
Posted by physicaldaemon on Jul. 16 2002,07:20
yeah, the upright citizen's brigade!

this link (which led to so much pain) was supposed to be for a bastardization of dubya's photo to make it like that guy on the UCB who did the "crushing your head" thing....he was hilarious. I think it was on the upright citizen's brigade, but with my memory it coulda been the Kids in the Hall. all I know is they used to play it on Comedy Central a lot.

speaking of newbiehood, which I have a lot of, could you explain how I might have used my link for evil? i don't see how it could have been made to put spyware on your computer.

thanx,

pD

heh, whenever I clik to a page that has no apparent new content, I assume something else is going on while I sit there.

I assume it's a bad distraction and I cut my connection from the plug and go backwards looking for weirdness.

Like if someone calls you up and says they have a free thing, don't you get suspicious right away?

That's all.

unless you already screwed around with some options in your web browser, it should ask you before any file is downlaoded or executed on your computer. this means that normally you can't get spyware from a webpage unless you let it by clicking yes in the dialog that pops up.
