I can't seem to figure women out. Here's a new one even for me.

I have my friend's Fred and Kellye over to watch The 6th Day.

We are quietly watching the movie, drinking some beer. And right at the point when Arnold goes home from RePet to discover his clone, my fiance starts poking me. I look over at her while still trying to catch this important part of the movie. She is pointing or something and smilinig.
I whisper "What?" glance back over at the TV and then back to her. She is still slightly pointing and waving her finger while smiling. "What?!" She rolls her eyes.
So I grab the remote, pause the movie. Look at her. "What?!?"
She says "Nothing.... nevermind"
I look at her funny and Fred & Kellye are looking at me and her funny. I shrug and turn the movie back on.

Well, after everyone leaves she tells me how rude "that" was and demands an apology. I keep asking her WHAT WAS RUDE! And she keeps replying THAT! I and that I should never do THAT again. We argue a little more and I give her a sarcastic blind apology.

As we are going to sleep she mutters "I don't know if I can spend the rest of my life with someone who doesn't respect my feelings." edit So then I ask her what I'm supposed to do when she starts poking me during a movie but won't say a word... Just ignore her? She sarcastically says "Yes." So I say "Fine, I'm ignoring you." I haven't said 2 words to her since./edit

WHAT THE FUCK IS SHE TALKING ABOUT!!!! Jesus age christ!!!

I told Fred about it today at work, and he is baffled. Then I emailed his wife Kellye, to get a woman's perspective, and she has no clue what was rude about what I did.

I accused Christy of just trying to start a fight with me last night since we have NEVER been in a fight since I've known her. She insists that she wasn't trying to start a fight and that I was rude and inconsiderate to her.

WHATEVER!!!!

thats your problem right there. she was point to the door. meaning you should go down to blockbuster (or wherever) and get another movie. The 6th Day is god awful, didnt you know that? did Ahw-narld have you in a trance or something?
or, im a better senario, she was point to the bedroom mouthing 'lets go fuck'. but it probobly wasnt that.
your woman is just crazy. thats all

It turned out that she was trying to show me her finger where she cut it for the 3rd time in 2 days. Twice on Sunday fixing dinner, and again yesterday with a plastic knife.

I, of course, was supposed to read her mind and instantly know that's what she was showing. Even though all the lights in the house were off.

And I didn't think the movie was THAT BAD. It wasn't academy award good, but it was somewhat entertaining.

Lol...you know, women think a lot, then pull themselves out of their self-centered self-absorbed world long enough to demand attention, and GOD HELP YOU if you cannot read their minds.

Hehe. I shouldn't be laughing, but good GOD, that maneuver sounds just like something my mother always does to my dad.

That's right... Laugh it up!

Any suggestions on how to smooth things over without admitting any wrong doing. Since there obviously was none.

I'll qualify.

...without admitting any wrong doing, OR commiting a crime.

I emailed her a copy of PG's Girl=Evil from the sex form. She is not ammused.

Her reply was:

quote:
So in turn you could assume that

Christy = Girl

therefore

Christy = evil

So, is that how you really feel?

I'm thinking about replying "Yes."

Say that when she showed the finger and you saw the cut, your first instinct was to DROP EVERYTHING and demand to know who hurt her this way! You wanted to destory whom ever gave her this injury.

But because friends where over, you didn't want to make a scene and embarras her. So since you know each other so well (therefore she KNOWS you would react in that way) assumed that she must be pointing at something, because it would be silly for her to WANT to imbarass her.

When you couldn't figure out what she was pointing at, you paused the movie to clear your head of furry and images of "the cutter" being trampled buy Texan bulls!

When she confronted you at first, you didn't want to admit that you would kill another man FOR HER. In fact... you wanted to deny to yourself that you ever SAW the cut so as to cool the raging fire inside of you! And only NOW that it's become such a big issue will you admit do being such a complicated... internally tormented... sensitive man!! You want to be stong for her and not let you emotions get the better of you infront of her...

And then DEMAND the name of the man who cut her! "DAMMIT!! I SAID GIVE ME HIS NAME!! THIS IS NO JOKE!! GIVE ME HIS NAME SO I CAN KILL HIM!!"

Then throw a chair so it breaks against the wall... cry... and then passionately embrase and kiss her.

PROBLEM SOLVED! My work is done here...

Ok listen to this shit. My girlfriend gets a flat tire on the way home. So she pulls off onto the side of the road...just barely. Theres not enough room to stand between her car and traffic, much less change a tire, much less be out of harms way. Then she leaves her blinkers on and makes her battery go dead. I didnt have a problem with the blinkers, its just that she has a bad battery and if you leave the lights on more than like 2-3 minutes it goes dead. And she wont buy a new one. So then shes also out of gas. So I get there and see all of what has happened and was a little pissed that she let all that happen. The Flat tire wasnt her fault but everything else was. So I said "next time use a little more common sense" So I get the mini spare on, which is low and the rim is almost touching the ground, and follow her home. We throw her tire in the back and I got her a new tire, a new battery, and some spare gas to keep in the trunk.

So she had some shit she had to do at her mothers house that night. She goes to her mothers and doesnt come home. That was on thursday of last week. I see her on AIM and she gives me some shit about she cant believe I disrespected her like that. And we havent talked since. Shes going to seattle this week to see some family and Im not gonna see her befor she leaves. So at this point I really dont give a fuck.

And so the saga ends...

I replied to her previous email with a stout. "It was joke. Not to be taken seriously."

Her reply was:

quote:
I know.....

I'm sorry that I interrupted you during a movie and I will really try my hardest to not do that again. And, I'm sorry that I got so upset about your reaction...but it hurt my feelings when you started to mimic me and made a scene by pausing the movie and stuff. Next time (if there is a next time) just tell me to hold on a sec or point to the TV (to remind me that your busy) or something like that, okay???? I know that this whole thing turned into something bigger than it actually was simply because we are both stressing over getting married and building a new house....there are a lot of life changes going on here and it's not easy! ...just keep in mind that I don't like being treated like a 5-year old and I'll keep in mind that you don't like being interrupted during movies. Sound like a deal??

I have to admit I conveniently forgot about mimicing her finger pointing/waving/whatever the hell she was doing. But after Fred & Kellye looked at me crazy, I felt the need to demonstrate to them the reason I paused the movie.

At any rate. I'm off the hook and didn't have to apologize or bow down to her weird womanly ways....

Next time I'll just keep that 2x4 idea in mind.

And even though I no longer need advice on my specific situation, please continue (as L33T has) to post your own unique "Crazy Women" stories. Most are hiliarious, and I'm sure I can relate to the majority of em!

Jenna: I'm leaving you jim.
jim: BUT WHY, DARLING?
Jenna: Because...
jim: Yes?
Jenna: You...
jim: What is it?
Jenna: You didn't throw the chair when I cut my finger!
*organ music plays*
jim: WHAT!? No... No, I WANTED to throw the chair for you.
Jenna: But you DIDN'T! GOODBYE!
jim: Wait, Jenna! *reaches for her*

Yeah, you've won this round jim, but an apology would go a long way with her. If you're the second to appologize, then there's no losing your macho fascade, and it'll make her much happier.

And, her response was a bit pointed. She talked about how you don't like to be interrupted during a movie like it's the end of the world. I sense that she's not totally back in step here. Make sure she knows that she didn't do anything horribly wrong and it may have been out of line if you mocked her.

Kiss her finger where it's cut and make it better. Cutsey things like that go a long way as well.

Oh... before I forget... married?!?!?!

As far as I'm concerned, I didn't do anything wrong. So no apology. End of story. I did sympathise with her, but no "I'm sorry (i didn't do anything)"

She wrote that because the arguement seemed to lean towards I was an asshole for pausing the movie. So most of my points during last nights arguement were "What am I supposed to do during an important scene in a movie, I paused it so I could figure out what you were trying to say to me!"

I did let her know that it doesn't bother me to be interrupted during a movie. But, if she has something to say to me, she should expect me to pause the movie, and I'm going to expect her to say something. Not her poking me, me pausing and saying What, and her say nothing.

Yeah, I popped the question a few days ago. It's been a topic of discussion for a few months now. It's funny because the only reason we waited this long, is because I had to have a ring custom made her. We looked at rings EVERYWHERE, and you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a simple round platinum band, with baggets on the side, and a solitaire marquee diamond in the middle. All the ones we looked at had the crazy designed in them, or the band was super thick. It just seemed odd to have to have a 'simple' design custom made. Ugh... So that took a couple weeks for the jeweler. Even more intersting is the way they do it. Which I had never contemplated before. They take a stick of hollow wax and carve the entire thing in WAX! It was pretty wierd seeing her future ring in green wax..... Also, for anyone getting engaged, I highly recommend having a ring custom designed. It wasn't expensive AT ALL! It cost 軆 for the ring (bought the diamonds seperate), and when you tell your woman that it's the only ring exactly like it in the whole world.... Well, you can just imagine the reaction...

Jim,

Are you sure you don't live in Cincinnati and are engaged to a girl named Jenna? Your fiancee sounds just like my ex. The stories I could tell . . . but basically, every one broke down this way:

1) She got mad at me for some reason.
2) I ask why she is mad.
3) She explains why she is upset with me.
4) I logically deconstruct the explaination to see where the problem is.
5) She is now mad at me for pointing out that she had no real reason to be mad.

Oh well, that's why I'm not engaged anymore.

Dumbass!!!! I didn't record the whole conversation verbatim. And the last time I checked you can't express the tone of your voice through text.

It wasn't said in a mean way at all. It was expressed in a confused way, because I couldn't tell what she was trying to tell, since she didn't speak.

So please go fuck yourself.

And as I already stated, the 2 other people there saw nothing wrong with what I did AT ALL!

Ok enough of this shit. Either come out and say "Look at my fucking finger I cut it today" or dont do anything at all. If everybody is engrossed in something else and you do these little subtle moves and you dont get your point across, either everyones gonna ignore you or theyre gonna stop what theyre doing to pay more attention to you to see whats going on. Live with it or move on.

It was only a fucking film. And a new Arnie film at that (that equates to a shit film).

She just wanted to communicate with you but you basically told her to fuck off and drew attention to her and did treat her like a five year old, okay so she was seeking attention but there's no need to embarass her for it.

And like heaves says, you should say sorry in return and admit that you were the bigger asshole (even if it's not true) because it'll spiral towards you both telling each other 'I love you' and then some reconcilitary sex.

And it was pretty clear from her apology that she was taking the piss out of you not liking being interrupted during films.
cheers

What the hell are you talking about man? Did you even read what I wrote?!?! I gave her every oppotunity to 'communicate' with me. Once with a look, again by asking her quietly "what?", and then again by stopping the movie and again asking her "what?" I have no way of telling what she is trying to say. For all I know she is trying to tell me to turn the volume up, or pause it so she can go use the restroom, or turn the lights on.... I don't know unless she says anything... WHICH SHE DIDN'T!!!

Ok, let's throw another spin on it. What would you have done? Nothing? While she is poking you in the side. Do you just pretend like you didn't feel it?

Or do you turn around and look at her and see what she says? (Which I did.) And when she says nothing. What do you do? Ignore her?

Or ask her "What?" (which I did) Then when she still doesn't say anything, but is still poking you. What do you do? Ignore her?

Let's hear what you would do, ya bunch of fucking smart asses. It was plainly clear to 3/4 of the room that my reaction were normal civil actions that anyone would have done. Actually 100\% of the room agrees with me, since when I asked the 1/4 that got pissed off what she would have done, she replied "I guess the same thing."

So if you are unable to comprehend the situation, then shut your god damn trap.

The facts are, I was right! She apologized, I still got laid, and everything is hunky fucking dory. So the topic is closed for discussion. Problem solved. I was right. Your idiot comments aren't going to change that.

You think too much like them.

Chicks can be as subtle and silly as they want to be, but they have no excuse to get pissy if it goes over someone's head.

Jim took a perfectly logical series of actions in the situation. Apparently, even the chick isn't upset about it anymore (and acknowledges that she shouldn't have been to start with). You're the only one with the problem.

Posted by jim on May 15 2001,18:10
Let me say it again then. YOU DON'T FUCKING GET IT!!!

She could care less if I paused the movie. I do it all the time because I only have 30\% hearing in my right ear because of mortar round going off right next to me in the Marine Corps.

I thought she was pointing at her drink on the coffee table, but she wasn't. So I was trying to get her to tell me what she wanted. She didn't. So I paused the movie. AT THIS POINT SHE ISN'T MAD AT!!! NOT IN THE LEAST!!! ZERO!!! ZILCH!!! SHE'S HAPPY!!! GOT IT??? GOT IT??? UNDER-FUCKING-STAND YET! Shit!

It wasn't till after I said "What?" she said nothing. I looked at Fred and Kellye who seemed baffled. I said to them "Don't look at me, she was pointing or something." and I made a gesture and probably a face. THAT'S WHAT PISSED HER OFF. Even after I had paused the movie and said "What?" If she had even said aloud "Nevermind." I would have pressed play and she wouldn't be mad, and I wouldn't have to explain this to you like a 5 year old.

after reading jim's description of the situation, i find that his actions are COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED.

if someone is poking the shit out of you in the middle of a movie, and you ask them "what?", you deserve a response. if they don't respond, pausing the movie to ask them what the hell is so important is perfectly justifiable.

starting a fight with them is not, and neither is waiting until you're just about to go to sleep to make a comment about the entire relationship. those comments belong in discussions where both parties are open, honest, and communicative.

write it in the history books, i agree with how jim handled something. stick to your guns dude, she's wrong this time.

Once I finally got Christy to the point where she would talk logically about it, it turned out that the only thing she was upset about was the way I portrayed her poking and waving to our friend Fred and Kellye. Something that never would have happened in the first place had she simply said "Oh, it was no big deal. I was just going to show you I cut my finger again." Boom. jim, here is a MARVELOUS trick for dealing with them crazy women :

"I don't think I did anything wrong, but I'm sorry your feelings got hurt."

or something similar. If you're sorry about something, that just means it makes you sad. It's not an admission of responsibility or guilt, and it shows that you do, indeed, have respect for her feelings.

Not that you did anything wrong... just a little trick to pass on, like the time my buddy showed me the CTRL+drag trick.

I didn't apologize, but I see where you are coming from, and it's not something I didn't already think of.

I did however say "I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." etc... etc... just not I'm sorry for what I did. She understands that about me...
