Posted by demonk on Jun. 24 2002,19:01Ok, first off, I have to say that I really love this game. Very open ended. I'm so torn as to explore the online world of NWN or keep playing the single player campaign since both are really, really good.
Second, how many of you have a copy?
Third, what do you think about setting up an offical Detonate.net 24/7 persistant NWN server? We could theme the areas with classic members' names, like Kuru's Armory, CatKnight Prison, etc, etc. Just a thought that I had.
Posted by just_dave on Jun. 24 2002,20:03Does it have a price tag to play online? I know the game itsself is 60.00 at the ole walmart.....
Posted by demonk on Jun. 24 2002,21:07Completely free to play online (well, there is your ISP fee, but that doesn't count). They (BioWare) does not host any online servers themselves. Users like you and I are the ones who run the servers. This will lead to sooo much variety in gameplay, that I won't be suprised to see this game last as long if not longer than Half Life has. Just image it: a just_dave cave for you to control and populate with all the creatures you want

BUY THIS GAME
I don't buy much software, and when I do, it's because it is good and at a reasonable price. This game is very good. It is as a reasonablish price (could be $10 lower if you ask me, but it JUST came out). Don't bother downloading it. Just get in your car/cab/bus/shoes and goto a store and buy it. Support the games/companies that make good products and run an ethical business (BioWare) and pirate the bad software from companies that are unethical (Any MS product). That is how you encourage more good games to be made.

probablly will buy it if its as good as everyone speaks.. but I can not afford 60 bucks right now for a game
Posted by Necromancer on Jun. 25 2002,00:59people who dont pay for even the good games make me sick. whats the point in taking the money away from the peopel who have actually got the skill and commitment to put together something thats really good for once. you're the kind of people that hold the industry back.
Operation flashpoint forever. i have no sympathy for the people who got their illegal copies fucked cos of the implemented FADE system.
Posted by jim on Jun. 25 2002,15:43This game is the end all be all to RPG's in my opinion.
I own 2 copies, and so does my neighbor. We have a wireless lan between our 2 houses and me, my wife, him, and his wife have been playing the single player campaign in multiplayer co-op mode. It's a blast.
His Wife: Monk
I've already have plans to be bringing up a persistant world here pretty soon. Been working on the scripting etc, etc.. pretty much everyday, since the 4 of us have agreed to only play together. So when anyone of us are unavailable to play, I'm glued to my PC making enviroments with my world builder guid at my side.
I've been pretty much designing my world around my guild though: http://www.firstorder.net/
Making a persistant world isn't easy in a game like this. At least if you want it to have goals, etc... etc... So I'm working towards having more than 1 player factions. This way there be some nice PVP options, as well as dungeon crawls, wooded quests, and some pretty sweet cities I've already included....
This game is just so much fun. The thing that sucks most about creating the world, is it's not much fun to play in your own world. So I guess I'll DM'ing it most of the time, which could work out really welll...
i.e. possesing an NPC and convincing Faction 1 that they need to do this quest for me at X location, then posses an NPC and tell Faction 2 the same thing, but have them enter at a different location.
Then basically they both fight their way to the depths of the dungeon ultimately colliding at some point for a HUGE battle royal!!!
Then.... Before everyone dies, maybe a spawn a dragon near-by and the teams end up having to work together to defeat the dragon... etc.. etc...
Man, this game sure knows how to make you feel like a geek.
FYI: I've never played a Pen and Paper D&D game in my life, but from what I've heard, NWN is the closest you can get.

I agree ... I decided against downloading this one because well two reasons:
1: it isnt M$
2: Sounds like it rocks world and if I pay for it and have to wait to buy it it will be worth the wait when I get it to play it ..
I know what you mean I have one game I downloaded, thats because some prick stole my cd .... i know who it was and after repeatedly beating his arse he still wont admit it ...
ohh well i quit playing it anyways ..
Posted by TheTaxMan on Jun. 26 2002,10:05Too bad my shitty computer can't run the beast. Back to MUD'ing...
Posted by just_dave on Jun. 26 2002,23:23Wonder what the specs are on a good DM machine. I got an old one we can use on a couple conditions.....
Posted by just_dave on Jul. 01 2002,21:17So are we gonna do this? I wonder what kind of machine and bandwidth we are talking about here ??
Posted by jim on Jul. 01 2002,21:27I run mine on a Win2k Adv Server box.
PII 450, 224m Ram, 8 gig HD, Shared ADSL line with 4 people.
Server runs 20 people with no lag.
And they have a linux server client out now, which may appeal to some of you.
Posted by just_dave on Jul. 01 2002,22:18
Sounds pretty good man. I am guessing the software comes with a windows server
Posted by chmod on Jul. 02 2002,01:44I bought it just a few days after it came out, and this game is THE best game I've played in a long time. SLATE and I play in co-op multiplayer for hours on end. However, it does have a few bugs that need to be sorted out... the game was only in beta testing for about 3 weeks and they rushed it out prematurely (probably the fault of infogrames) but hopefully they'll patch everything up soon. If anybody wants to play on my server sometime, drop me an e-mail.
Posted by Necromancer on Jul. 02 2002,01:48does anyone know what the performance is for this thing when you dont have it running on a dedicated server. i'm only gonna have it running with 4 peeps total including myself but just wondering none the less.
Posted by jim on Jul. 02 2002,20:35It ran just fine with 4 people even when I wasn't running the dedicated server.
But as an FYI, it is recommend that you use the dedicated server for multiplayer EVEN if you are running it on the same box as the client.
The worst part about the multiplayer is figuring out save games so that no-one looses experience, items, or quests....
I still haven't completely figured that out.
Posted by Necromancer on Jul. 02 2002,23:25a dedicated server isnt an option really. aint enough hardware in the house for it.
Posted by demonk on Jul. 02 2002,23:40Just buy more Simple concept if you ask me
Posted by just_dave on Jul. 03 2002,01:31
what parts you need I probablly can trade and find some
Posted by Necromancer on Jul. 03 2002,04:17i have no money no time and cant be assed to put another rig together at the moment. i have enough trouble making it through the day without coming face to face with my own mortality and scaring the shit out of myself. setting up a whole new dedicated server just isnt in me at the moment. i'll just stick with the unreliablity and bless the day i bought 512meg extra ram when it was cheap.
Posted by Steel_Samurai on Jul. 11 2002,04:29I'm gonna have to agree with TaxMan.
If my computer wasn't so shitty I'd go get NWN, but since it's not, I'll stick to playing MUDs.
*kicks whore-ass computer*
