I got clued into this place by kbreak.  Ok so you want a description... hmmmm.  I'm 42, living near Chicago USA, college student, worker bee at a University, married, no children, I have one very spoiled cat.

I don't bite... usually.

Thanks for the freebie flame... I was cold   :p

Hey CL, this place has a different feel from puce.com, it's more intellectual, but we still fight like infants.

Just with better vocabulary.

 So what do you do at the University?  Kuru teaches at a school... she's quite bright.

Enjoy!

We pride ourselves on using complex words when we wish to denigrate someone.

Welcome to the forums, please have some analgesics handy for when the flamethrowers are brought out of storage.

And remember that sometime in your first week it is absolutely obligatory to vilipend someone less intelligent than yourself. Key to this requirement is the absolute certainty that the person you are deriding is a dolt of the higest possible caliber so as not to insert your metatarsals into your oral cavity.

We hope you will enjoy the discourse as you peruse our lovely forums. We anticipate much thoughtful confabulation with you at future times.

Alright ed, how's that for highbrow intellectual?

Detnet *is* more educated than most of the forums I visited.

I haven't found too many where both students and teachers hang out and go after each other.

Is Detnet special?

Welcome CL, most of the regulars around here don't bathe too regularly, but aside from that, they're not too bad.

As for the "newbie flamage," you can avoid it by not coming in and doing something incredibly stupid/annoying like I did (right Rhydant?).

Anyway, it's great to "see a new face."  Hope you enjoy!

My job at the University consists of typing books, putting together graphics for books and presentations, preparing class work (notes, handouts, transparencies, exams), correspondence, designing posters, sometimes editor, always a diplomat, and overall cracker jack secretary.

Indeed, analgesics are handy for those sporadic occurrences of flamethrowers that are brought out of storage.

During my first week, I shall endeavor not to insert my metatarsals into my oral cavity while performing the obligatory vilipend to someone less intelligent than myself.  Naturally I will perform this requirement with the absolute conviction that the person I am scoffing is diminutive of the highest possible caliber.  I will keep in mind that multifarious words are indispensable when denigrating someone.

Thanks for your exquisite salutation.

BlackFlag:  Oh I am the pariah of detonate dot net; hatred and mockery is all I ever get!
CycleLady:  Then steal thee away from here, do so with great haste!  Lest I brandish mine broadsword and give thee swift chase!
For if all came to hate you, there must be good reason...  Why else whould there be a BlackFlag hunting season?!
BlackFlag:  With a wave and a tear, I shall swiftly take leave, in search of other lands where i might find reprieve...

It has become apparent to my optical receptors that you are presently achieving the embodiment of assimiliation into our cerebral collaboration. I should expect that your reception here would be the most jubilant of welcomes, as you have demonstrated your impressive ability to verbally buffet the most base imbiciles that our humble cyber-abode has to offer.

Please feel free to make use of BlackFlag in a manner befitting his vapid nature, as we have come to expect that the witty repartee of other posters will be so efficiently employed in such a way as to redress him in his failings. You may conclude that colloquialism obfuscates the intended message sufficiently that BlackFlag will find it impossible to decipher the true level of your derision without employing a dictionary. Barring any belief that he should comprehend pontifications about his parentage, even with the use of external aides, you may find it copacetic to flame him in the juvenile manner to which he is accustomed.

Bienvenue,
kuru.

Cyclelady : vocabulary does imply intelligence.

There, you have your first flame :)

For your first target, may I suggest CatKnight?  He's more fun than BlackFlag.  He thinks he's much more intelligent than the rest of us because he studies nuclear physics... and somehow that qualifies him as an expert in everything.

good vocabulary denotes a good education.  nothing more, nothing less.
Proper use of the vocabulary, on the other hand, proves that you're at least of average intelligence.

Woulfgaurd gave quite a scathing review of what he perceived my pedigree to be, and i must admitt i was taken aback by how close to reality his divinations were.  WG was without doubt the better man in our battle of wits, but you, kuru, i am hesitant to attack.... for you seem so poorly armed.

I am accustomed to being flamed in a juvenile manner; those who flame me most are the most juevenile.

Perhaps vocabulary denotes intelligence, but it substantiates nothing.

I propose intelligence is purely subjective.  Intelligence could be considered mental ability or cognitive faculties, yes?  Yet most human abilities stem from cognitive powers of one particularization or another.  Some cockarouse swashbucklers’ adroit abilities of defenestration could constitute a mental ability, even if it may be a demonstration of intuition and physical prowess.  Is not intuition a function of the mind?  Yes, that’s correct, I argue that a master arc wielder with vocabulary of a cercopithecoidea may actually possess a higher intellect then some literary master.

Ah well.  What am I but a immature brat with the ineffable belief of a meaningless world classified as an existentialist.  And what is this conversation but ardent masturbation, each of us intent on receiving a nod of approbation.

Hrm.  My vocabulary is achieving sub-standard levels of mediocrity.  Perhaps I should hit the proverbial books?

Bollox!  Mesa going for a walksa.

Being called a "bitch" usually means I'm being placed higher up the evolutionary line up than say a floor mat.

Just remember...

B = babe
I  = in
T = total
C = control
of
H = herself

I am speaking of when a woman is standing up for herself or making a point.

NOT
when a person is being a total jackass.  There's a difference.

Why is it when a man digs in and aggresively makes a point he's some sort of hero?  When a female does the same thing, she's a "bitch"  Geesh

That says more about the quality of people listening to you than it does about you.

Personally, I loooove independent women who can make a good point.  Especially if they're kind, compassionate people as well.  Sweet, passive things leave me flat... why would I want a dumb woman?

Of course, there are plenty of women out there who I consider bitches, but it has nothing to do with their intelligence.  Usually it has everything to do with trying too hard to act like a typical man.

typical man == arrogant asshole
woman who strives to act like a typical man == arrogant bitch
man who strives to be a good person == a real man
woman who does the same == woman of my dreams inlove.gif

Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Apr. 19 2002,01:04
Personally, I judge men much more harshly than I judge women.  Probably has something to do with the fact that kindness is seen as a virtue for women, but a weakness for men - so most men don't bother being nice unless they want something from you.
