OK, I have a motorola sm56 fax modem that i got with my WinMe laptop.  I just installed Windows XP and as of 6/9/02 i have 30 days to activate it.  my modem is designed for WinMe and my XP won't recognize it,  so i can't get on the internet.

I know i can activate XP over the phone using an 800 number but i still need to be able to get on the net. Does anyone know what i can do besides get a new modem.

P.S.
I looked and i can't find any XP drivers for my modem.

I concure

Here's a solution for you.  Throw out the modem and get a NIC instead  ...then get cable or DSL.  No more dial-up problems.
:D

That would work except i am a 13 year old internet junkie --spending most of my time on Detnet -- that lives in mississippi.

How could i afford cable or dsl?
I have always wanted cable (modem), but financially i can't get one.

I ran ME for 2 years without any problems. :p

Motorola drivers are the worst to look for.

www.driverguide.com

Log: drivers
Pass: all

Look for NT4, or Win2K drivers for it. More of the Win2K variety is preferable.

I never claimed that I liked ME, just that I ran it problem free for an extended period of time. Mind you, it was on my mp3 box... :)

the fact that you ran it with no problems just shows that you are Most Evil and must be distroyed :)

Comes with the horns, sorry bub. :)

I was fond of it for about 3 minutes because of the expanded driver database, but that hit it's limits pretty quick. Greatly improved in XP.

Microsoft sux. AOL does too, even though i have to use it. Now AOL wants to buy over RedHat. And AOL Time warner Redhat Linux doesnt exactly sound that good. And just imagine what will happen if M$ and AOL join up? I mean AOL already took over Nullsoft and my cable company and a few other busynesses... anyway remember that all the versions of Windows are dos-based, and XP doesnt use dos anymore. so anything made for windows 95-ME probibly wont work on XP. And anyway XP sucks. Anyone remember that micosoft os named "Microsoft Bob"? The reasion bill gates didnt fire the person who wrote that was because his wife made it. If anyone knows how to run AOL on a RedHat Linux 7.3 comp, can u tell me? thanx!
