stormsstaying in a bed and breakfast with a large white enveloping bed right under the window - a small town on the Isle of Skye - through the window I could see the bridge that connected it to mainland Scotland - and the water.. the storm had avoided breaking all day while we'd been hiking but it broke upon us as we lay down to bed... nature had so much passion over the water and land....

Bah! Damn thunderstorms.We've been getting at least 2 severe ones a week down here.
First of all, the damn thunder and rain beating against my window keeps me up all damn night.
Which OK I guess, since the power always goes out and I have to reset my alarm clock.... Of course while doing that the power always goes out a 2nd or third time.
Then the next day I have to spend re-mulching my landscaping that all the wind blew away.
Then I get to sweep the driveway and side walks for about 20 minutes.
Grrrrrr.... Damn Texas weather.

at least you don't get the kansas wind. oh yes, gusts up to 60mph!
Let's see in the past week, we've had 5, yes count them 5 "severe thunderstorm warnings" issued by the national weather service. In addittion I think it's like 3-4 tornado watches.
As far as your mulch blowing away, have you considered rock?

Wyoming is fun too....(sorry, memories of driving through the mountains on ice covered roads with 80mph winds and no railings on the side of the road...) storms there are scary..but I've never had a real tornado...or a hurricane... (although we did have a tornado take off the back of a gas station a few miles from my house when I lived in Vegas...)

We've had about the same. And actually had a tornado about 5 miles away.
About the wind. Not sure what it was 2 weeks ago, but the rain was hitting the window so hard, I really thought it was hail and that the window was about to break.
So half asleep I wondered into the front entry way and started to open the front door to look outside, the door wiped open and hit me in the head, and knocked my ass flat on the deck and drew blood.
I got back up and was barely able to close the door.
So then I decided I'd get my look at the storm from the garage.
I opened the garage door was getting drenched by rain all the way at the door to the Utility room.
That was by far the worst non-tornadic, non-hail storm, I've been in.
And about the mulch, Rock mulch looks like ass!

No, 60mph gusts on cloudless days...
Yeah, there was a tornado not to far from here and I love the hail. We had a nice hail storm about a month ago. You really need a covered garage to live here if you don't like the look of hail damage
Still... with the rock, it may not look as great, but it is a lot lower maintenance.
