My old stance was "Who needs two monitors?"Then I tried a dual monitor solution. I was hooked. Any more though, that's overkill. Who needs four monitors? I DO. So, what do I do?
Has anyone managed to get two dualhead cards working in the same system? I've never tried. The last option is a little outrageous - but four Matrox G200s will deliver bitchin' 2D and won't cost me a kidney. Input / ideas welcome. Posted by Dysorderia on May 20 2002,07:38
what the hell do you need SIXTEEN fucking monitors for?
Posted by The_Stomper on May 20 2002,17:51
Well, I really don't need sixteen monitors yet. I'm not at that stage yet. Mind you, I did see a really nice 3x3 setup of 19" TFTs for about $20000 on eBay ...*slaps self back to reality* But seriously? Take web development, toss in a little C/C++ on the side, add a small order of 3DSMax4, and you'll reach the point where four monitors become very useful very fast. ::Ahem::I seem to manage Maya, Photoshop, Image Ready, Notepad/IE (web development), MSVC++, SSH terminals, Trillian, Seti, and movies or music in the background all at the same time FINE with ONE monitor. But... Maybe that's just me. Multiple Dualheads should work fine. In XP at least. Posted by jim on May 21 2002,15:57
I'm with you stomper. I love having multiple TFT's...
Posted by The_Stomper on May 22 2002,06:59
Wish it was multiple TFTs ... as of now it's just a set of 17" ViewSonic tubes at 2560x960@85Hz. Sigh ... can't win em all. I'll give the dual Dualheads a shot. If that works, I'll still have some change leftover for a new set of Z-560 speakers. Man those things r0x0r, and they don't even have a floor-firing sub ... mind you when they're dropping 188W RMS through a dual-coil 8" cone, don't matter if it's floor-firing.

Got my Z-560's 5 months ago, at christmas, for exactly $150 (that's with shipping). Since which I've had to move 4-5 times throughout the house. It seems the bass permieates into every corner of the house. Yeah, these babies are sweet. They pretty much outdo Bose systems I've seen for my music. And since they're so cheap I don't have to be moderate with them. But, I haven't manage to hurt 'em too bad I don't believe, even when I was in my room and I managed to knocked books of the shelves. Yeah, it can handel the Bass of The Crystal Method, or BT and the high and mid-range of Spineshank at really loud levels very well. Oh yeah, it's also great for movies ::/advertisement:: Posted by The_Stomper on May 28 2002,06:18
Damn right. A friend of mine down the hall in my apartment building has Altec Lansing ADA880s ... lame little things don't even have 4-channel analog input and the rear speakers are 180 degrees out of phase! The sub box is huge and I admit it can thump to Chemical Brothers / Crystal Method quite well ... but for pure, unadulterated, capital-B Bass, nothing tops the Logitechs. It's also got the IR remote going for it, and the digital input ... but ...Z-560s = CDN$300 ADA880s = CDN$500 Better bass, 4-channel analog for Counter-Strike, and rear channels in phase. I'll sacrifice the wireless remote and digital input for that any day. Can't wait to get my set and start knocking things off my walls. Posted by Beastie Dr on May 28 2002,06:35
" friend of mine down the hall in my apartment building has Altec Lansing ADA880s ... lame little things don't even have 4-channel analog input and the rear speakers are 180 degrees out of phase!"Back off, pal! And I'd like to mention I got my 880s for $100 US, brand new in November. And you had better recognize; it's all about the bass. Posted by The_Stomper on May 31 2002,07:38
It's all about the bass.Precisely why I want the Z-560s instead. Mind you $100 is quite impressive for ADA880s ... I've seen several sets go on eBay for $65 though. Very tempting. |
