As I was setting up another BSD box at work the other day, and proceeded to config it via telnet, I thought to myself is thier any usefull applications that can be executed from a Microsoft Telnet service? I mean what the hell is the point to telneting into a windows box? Anyone know?------------------ Posted by incubus on Oct. 14 2001,20:19

Telnet is crap. SSH all the way! With RSA keys! With access to my server on a backbone! w00tah! ........ I have deep seated geekdom..... ------------------ Posted by CNCJake on Oct. 14 2001,22:02
Strange huh! The telnet service is a part of win2k and now XP, but why the hell is it there? There is already terminal services and ftp server so that takes care of any remote admin I can thin of, and besides moving around files; I dont know what else can be accomplished via telneting to a windows box. But it has to be there for a reason!!!!!!!!------------------ Posted by MattimeoZ80 on Oct. 15 2001,03:34
yeah, ssh. telnet=ssh to me, even though they're completely different. i don't use telnetd or whatnot; sshd all the way!

I use the telnet service on my Win2K server to display random quotes. ...I didn't say it was a good use of the service, but it is a use. |
