| Forum: The Classroom Topic: More admin culling started by: Darth Liberus Posted by Darth Liberus on Jul. 09 2002,03:42I just dropped two more people from the admins category: cr0bar -> normal member. He doesn't need admin and there's a chance RenegadeSnark knows his password. BtC -> moderator; will be dropped to normal member unless someone explains to me why he needs more privs. --- A script has been installed that will immediately reset the proper privs on everyone's account... no, you can't have the URL. This is for emergency use only. The following people are the only people allowed with admin rights: Wiley kuru Darth Liberus / DSL incubus Wolfguard kbreak Everyone else gets dropped to "Member." That is all. Posted by Bozeman on Jul. 09 2002,03:43It was nice while it lasted... ...even though I never did anything. Oh well. Posted by Darth Liberus on Jul. 09 2002,04:00no offense meant to anybody our security is just entirely too loose. Posted by joelthegreat on Jul. 09 2002,04:01Any chance you'll be getting a tape backup drive? Posted by forumwhore on Jul. 09 2002,04:09I almost removed all the admins more than once today By kbreak I hope you mean forumwhore Posted by Darth Liberus on Jul. 09 2002,04:36all your aliases are in there. You will get a link to the URL and instructions on how to use it. Posted by forumwhore on Jul. 09 2002,04:40Check your email! Posted by Vigilante on Jul. 09 2002,05:27I feel like I'm the only person that hasn't had a spin at admin. Posted by Wiley on Jul. 09 2002,05:53Admin status is like a nice tip ..let it slide into your hand and quickly pocket it  ...don't say a word  ...don't look at it, you know it's a nice tip.  You don't ever have to reach for it unless it's deperatly needed. Posted by forumwhore on Jul. 09 2002,06:23If you ever need anything, you got it. I'm cleaning house down to the bare walls. Posted by Rhydant on Jul. 09 2002,06:30i was a mod... i never figured out how to do anything special like lock topics or anything... Posted by Uberkommando on Jul. 09 2002,06:39I think it involves clicking on buttons that don't exist in this version of iB. On a completely unrelated note, does anyone know who the third House in Dune 2 was? Harkonnen, Atriedes, and who? This has been driving me insane for hours... Posted by Vigilante on Jul. 09 2002,07:39Ordos Posted by Darth Liberus on Jul. 09 2002,10:11After I accidentally banned all the admins *cough*, editor and I spoke on the phone and agreed that we needed to cut the admins down to the smallest # of people we could for the time being. I dropped my account back to "member" as well, so that my regular posts have no more authority than anyone else. Don't see why I should get a vanity license plate while everyone else has to have the standard ones. my old DSL account will be used for any admin stuff I have to do. Posted by TheTaxMan on Jul. 09 2002,10:44The time being should mean, forever until extenuating circumstances arise. Posted by Darth Liberus on Jul. 09 2002,11:43Hopefully it will be fairly permanent.  We need to tighten up security, and the fewer admins the better. As the need arises, though, they have first pick. In the past, news posts could only be made by admins/moderators. This was a bad idea. We wound up making people moderators who shouldn't have been. A new group will be created that will allow people to make news posts without having access they don't need. Posted by RadioActive on Jul. 09 2002,16:07I truly hope that from all that has happened today you had finally learned that administering a site involves this site being backed on regular bases. Since there is almost no content or anything else worth saving, at least backup the mySQL database entire forums are on. It's no big deal to do it even by hand, automated process would be even easier. If there is one thing I learned from spending a lot of time in from on a computer it's to always make backups, especially if you have something very important (like forums for example). Posted by compact3000 on Jul. 09 2002,22:15How doya become an admin/mod? Posted by Darth Liberus on Jul. 09 2002,22:16it gets backed up by the webhost. I already emailed him and asked him to send me the MySQL database files so I can restore our posts. Posted by Beldurin on Jul. 10 2002,00:08
