GODDAMN IT!
here's how this story goes.
I-695 passed (30 dollar car tabs)
this cuts some funding to other areas to make up for the losses. now, one of the ares they cut, were operating hours and staff of some DMV's.

so the closest one to me is 5 MI away. no problem, I'll do anything to get my learners permit! (/me is 15.5 yrs old) so we (me, mom, and sis) do to the DMV 5 mi away.

it's now 11:00
we get a number, 676, they were on 510, (ok, how long does this take?) 5 minutes later, 510 (2 stations were open for first license.)
SONOFABITCH!

we were all hungry, so we go to a subway next door, we eat until 12:00

the number is now 570
*eye starts twitching...*

better, but still not OK.

so we do a little shoping.

odds and sods... dinner, ect.

come back, 1:30, testing ends at 4:00

number is 600
I stay, it's close to 676, all of a sudden they start calling numbers, noone comes up. this goes on until 666 (good number eh?)

finaly 676, we go up, one of the computers is missing... motherfscker...

so they put me in the computer test room, I pass, yey! I got a permit! I can legally drive a 2 ton deadly vehicle! where is that dumbass advocating I-695...

but still, this is inappropriate, come on, I shouldn't have to wait this long.

Not only does it take forever to get anything done at the DMV but dont forget the following...

-In NJ they can and do suspend your license with out informing you in any way. if you get stopped they cops can then arrest you for driving with a suspended license.

-In NJ they force you to go to the state run inspection stations. The test takes 20 min per car and each station has only one lane that works.

-In NJ If you get a ticket you pay a fine, your insurance goes up, AND you have to pay a surcharge to DMV for 3 years.

-In NJ They just spent 200 mil on a new inspection system. The system failed totaly in the first 30 days causing waits upto 12 hours. They are calling it the Hindinburg inspection system.

There are more but i dont have the time. The DMV in NJ is the main reason i left NJ and will never return.

Yeah, try the California DMV...

You can make appointments, IF you want to wait on hold for half an hour. When you show up, you get herded into this little line. IF you survive the line, you're usually told to fill out a form by some 400 pound state worker who hasn't seen the light of day for 11 years.

But they give you a little pass to get back to the front of the line. You and the other 300 people that got passes.

There have been times that the people in the first line looked so pissed off that I didn't have the balls to cut to the front and jst waited again.

The result: one pissed off employer when i get back to work from lunch (at 3:30). All I had to say was DMV; I was forgiven

Wow. You know when I took my permit test I got the question "what color is a stop sign?" which wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't been one of the test questions in the back of the drivers manual.

You know what the road test was?.

start in empty parking lot.
drive around a pole.
drive to interesection
make left turn
drive to another intersection
make right turn.
drive to next intersection
make left turn.
make 3 pt turn.
go back to where you started.
park in empty parking lot.

So I guess in MA having a drivers license is accurate proof that you know prefectly well how to give the DMV your hard earned cash.
