Your laptop has s-video and vga outputs. Your LCD monitor has s-video and vga inputs. Which one is better and why?

VGA is better due to the signals it uses.

S-Video only supports NTSC (broadcast TV) signals - one resolution (525 vertical lines by ~320 pixels horizontal) at 60Hz.  Your laptop will automatically interpolate the desktop display to an NTSC signal so it looks the same, but you're losing a lot of information in the process.

VGA signals carry the display in a variety of resolutions and refresh rates, including everything your laptop supports.

Bet?

What kind of moron bet S-Video against VGA?

The only decent competition to VGA in the NTSC spectrum would be a 1080i HDTV signal. And even then, that's (only) 1920x1080@60Hz - easily topped by VGA.

Oh. Well, that's excusable.
